The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) held a meeting with Muslim Reza ex provincial chief SMEDA and an SME expert and Muhammad Abbas Badami senior member of CPLC to discuss restructuring of UNISAME and setting up of Rehnuma Committee on the pattern of welfare / liaison committees.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said we received permission many years ago from the then prime minister Chaudhry Shujjat Hussain to set up Rehnuma Committee on the pattern of Khidmat Committee but we unfortunately could not due to lack of resources.
Anver Mian Noor senior member of UNISAME Council has advised us to set up a board of directors to ensure continuity of UNISAME and in yesterdays meeting Muslim Reza advised us to change the status of the forum to a chamber of commerce and industry.
He said as a chamber of commerce and industry the scope will be widened and it will enjoy institutional support from the government and international SME chambers across the globe. It will also enjoy support of trade associations.
Abbas Badami appreciated the concept of Rehnuma Committee and assured support to develope framework for the benefit of various services to SMEs in different segments of trade and industry to enable the SMEs to get focused attention.
Yousuf Yaqoob chairman SMILE Pvt Ltd an SME facilitating company also assured full support and stressed on Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and state of the art industrial estates for SMEs.
Haji Muhammad Saeed chairman SME Farmers Association (SMEFA) stressed on modernization of farms, hydroponic farming and research and development for agriculture.
Zeeshan Nazim expert on Herbs, Gums and Roots lamented that our very important and beneficial segment of agriculture has been neglected.
Thaver said in our Unisame Council (UC) , we have the best of SME experts who are well versed in banking, leasing, insurance, mercantile law, farming, international trading and they are passionately and vigorously working for the sector and giving us excellent advise.
He said UNISAME has created awareness, identified the impediments, recommended remedies and given road map.
He thanked SMEDA, State Bank of Pakistan, FBR, Federal Tax Ombudsman, Ministry of Commerce and also Ministry of Industries for SME promotion and development.
The UC has urged the Ministry of Science and Technology to do more for the SME farmers and support them for modernization of farms and connected agricultural industries/units of SMEs. The UC has also urged the government to expedite the setting up of the Crops and Commodities board to streamline management, monitoring and supervision of crops and commodities to curtail imports through scientific, strategical approach as Pakistan unfortunately imports crops despite having bumper crops.
